Trudeau government must defend Canada’s Arctic sovereignty

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ottawa, ON —Bob Zimmer, Conservative Shadow Minister for Northern Affairs and Arctic Sovereignty; Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency, and the Hon. Kerry-Lynne Findlay, Conservative Shadow Minister for National Defence, released the following statement regarding the Speech from the Throne and its implications for Canada’s Arctic sovereignty:

“For years Justin Trudeau has failed to make defending Canada’s Arctic sovereignty a priority. And now, in the face of growing challenges posed by China and Russia’s Arctic military and economic ambitions, this Liberal government has made no mention in the Speech from the Throne that they are going to take the necessary steps to protect our Arctic sovereignty.

“We are deeply concerned about what this may mean for the future of Canada’s Arctic sovereignty, especially when Justin Trudeau continues to be absent when it comes to ensuring our Northern communities have access to opportunities for economic development.

“Only Canada’s Conservatives are determined to stand up for our Northern communities and our Arctic sovereignty.”
