Statement on the BC Wildfire Situation

Fort St. John, BC – Bob Zimmer, Member of Parliament for Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies and Chair of the BC/Yukon Caucus made the following statement regarding the current state of the wildfires across the interior of British Columbia.

“I am grateful to Minister Stone for taking the time to return my call and update me on the status of the wildfires and I’m dismayed to hear that the number of people evacuated has doubled to approximately 14,000. It doesn’t seem that the weather is cooperating either as high temperatures and high winds are making the situation even worse.

“I would like to emphasise the importance of obeying the alerts as they relate to open fires, open burnings and campfires have been prohibited across the province and it’s very important that these guidelines are adhered to. Resources are being stretched thin and assistance from the public in reporting any new fires is requested.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to those who have been affected and those who are on the front lines fighting these fires day after day. My office will continue to work to provide as much accurate information as quickly as possible.”
