Statement from MP Zimmer Regarding COVID-19

FORT ST. JOHN – Bob Zimmer, Member of Parliament for Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies, issued the following statement:

“The health and safety of Canadians is a top priority, which is why all parties agreed to adjourn the House of Commons until April 20 in an effort to avoid the possible spread of COVID-19.

“I will be limiting my travel, but will be in the riding to assist with any possible outbreak at the local level and to continue my elected duties outside of Parliament.

“The risk to Canadians is still low and I encourage everyone to remain calm and to continue to practice good hygiene. This includes:

• washing your hands for at least 20 seconds;
• avoiding touching your eyes, nose or mouth;
• coughing or sneezing into a tissue or your sleeve;
• avoiding contact with people who are sick; and
• staying home if you are sick.

“If you have travelled to an affected region and/or you develop a fever, cough or difficulty breathing within two weeks of contact, please call your health care provider or HealthLink BC at 811. The Public Health Agency of Canada has also set up a Coronavirus Hotline at 1-833-784-4397.

“We must all work together during this difficult time to ensure we flatten the curve to reduce the stress on our health care system.”
