Statement by MP Zimmer on the Passing of Ravi Zacharias

FORT ST. JOHN – Bob Zimmer, Member of Parliament for Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies, issued the following statement regarding the passing of Ravi Zacharias, founder of the Ravi Zacharias International Ministries:

“I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ravi Zacharias. During my time as Chair of the National Prayer Breakfast, I was privileged to get to know Ravi when he came to Ottawa as the featured speaker for the 50th Annual National Prayer Breakfast in 2015.

“I still remember our first meeting in person when I introduced myself. He asked, ‘So what do you want me to speak about?’ knowing he would be speaking to Parliamentarians and other government leaders. I said, ‘Let us hear it straight, we need to hear what God has put on your heart for Canada’. What followed was a powerful message of the Gospel.

“Ravi will go down in history as one of the great Christian leaders of all time who was dedicated to bringing the message of the Gospel to the intellectual. His soft-spoken and thoroughly non-critical approach to anyone who brought forward a question at one of his open debates leaves a hole that will be difficult to fill.

“I was honoured to become a friend and his presence will be missed as he goes on to his well deserved rest. Our deepest thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Margaret, along with their three adult children.”
