MP Zimmer Hosts Roundtable Discussion Regarding Housing Prices in Vancouver
VANCOUVER – Bob Zimmer, Member of Parliament for Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies and Opposition Deputy Critic for Families, Children and Social Development, held a roundtable discussion today seeking the views of local stakeholders on the housing market in Vancouver.
“With housing prices continuing to rise in Vancouver, it is important that the concerns and recommendations of those close to the issue are heard,” said Mr. Zimmer. “With that in mind, I had a great discussion with local stakeholders about the many challenges surrounding affordable housing in Vancouver. It’s good that so many people want to live, raise their families, and retire in beautiful BC. The issue is the ability to do so affordably.”
The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, the Minister responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, recently sent a letter to CMHC requesting a review of rising housing prices in markets like Vancouver and Toronto.
“In light of this mandate, and using the feedback gathered at this roundtable, I look forward to writing a report with my colleague MP Karen Vecchio, Opposition Critic for Families, Children and Social Development, and submitting it to Minister Duclos,” said Mr. Zimmer.
Attendees at today’s roundtable included representatives from the Canadian Homebuilders Association, the Real Estate Board for Greater Vancouver, and the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board.
A similar roundtable is also scheduled to take place later this month in Toronto.
