Mackenzie and Fort St. John Benefit From Federal Gas Tax Funds
OTTAWA – Mackenzie and Fort St. John are two British Columbia communities that will benefit from the federal Gas Tax Funds. These communities have received $5,000,000 each for infrastructure projects from the Strategic Priorities fund.
Mackenzie’s funding will go to the Mackenzie Recreation Centre Retrofit and Community Hall while Fort St. John’s will be for a Resource Recovery Centre.
The federal Gas Tax Fund provides local governments with the flexibility to choose and plan infrastructure projects based on their specific priorities and provides them with more flexibility to support local infrastructure.
“We are very happy to see that the federal Gas Tax Funds are continuing as intended and communities all across BC as well as Canada have access to much needed infrastructure dollars.
“The BC/Yukon Caucus was key in crafting the new agreement which has affected how these funds are distributed”, said Mr. Zimmer, “we heard from our municipalities and constituents that the criteria needed to be more streamlined, and we listened”.
