Conservatives call for accountability on Iqaluit water infrastructure project

Ottawa, ON — Bob Zimmer, Conservative Shadow Minister for Northern Affairs and Arctic Sovereignty; Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency, issued the following statement regarding the funding announcement for Iqaluit’s water infrastructure project:

“It is unacceptable that any Canadian should be without clean drinking water. It is why I brought up this very issue in the House of Commons earlier this week.

“After working on this file for months, I am glad that the government finally decided to support this project. The Liberals have a terrible record of actually delivering on their commitments for clean drinking water, so I will be watching closely to make sure this isn’t just another empty promise.

“Success isn’t measured by funding announcements; it’s measured by outcomes, and I will be following the progress of this project closely.

“Clean water is essential to human health and well-being. Conservatives will always support meaningful, and lasting, measures and investments to ensure all Canadians have access to safe drinking water.”
