Trudeau Once Again Goes After The Good Guys With Firearms Legislation

OTTAWA – Bob Zimmer, Member of Parliament for Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies and Co-Chair of the Parliamentary Outdoor Caucus, issued the following statement regarding the NDP-Liberal government’s new firearms legislation:

“Since first being elected in 2015, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his Liberal government have repeatedly shown a complete lack of respect for our outdoor community. At the same time, gun crime has gone up steadily, despite their arbitrary bans and their complicated and expensive buyback program.

“With the introduction of Bill C-21, this NDP-Liberal government has once again chosen to target our highly-vetted firearms owners instead of focusing on efforts to combat criminals and illegal firearms.

“The reality is that the vast majority of gun crimes are committed with illegally obtained firearms. Measures like freezing the legal purchase, sale, transfer, or import of handguns or prohibiting replica firearms does nothing to stop dangerous criminals and gangs who obtain their guns illegally.

“Canada is less safe under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. While adding more restrictions to lawful firearms owners, he is removing penalties for weapons-related crimes like weapons trafficking, discharging a firearm recklessly, robbery with a firearm, and extortion with a firearm through Bill C-5.

“Canadians deserve real, concrete action to make our communities safer. With the introduction of this firearms bill what we got instead is more Liberal theatre.

“I will always stand up for the rights of law-abiding firearms owners, while remaining focused on common-sense firearm safety, and tackling gun crime and making communities safer.”
